September 19 @ 3:00 pm
Members: Get ready for a captivating afternoon at this exclusive member event. We’re shining the spotlight on Elena de pie [Elena Standing], a stunning bronze sculpture by Francisco Zúñiga (1912–1998). Zúñiga, a Costa Rican-born Mexican artist, was known for his painting and sculpting in a unique regional style that combined his classical training with Aztec forms. Join the museum team to learn about this artist and his remarkable work. Watch as our collections staff restore this sculpture, cleaning away green oxidation, then rewaxing and sealing the work.
Feeling adventurous? Don a pair of gloves and join in on the action, helping to bring Elena de pie back to her original glory. Don’t miss this rare chance to be a part of art preservation in action! Guests are invited to stay as late as 5 p.m. to view the entire cleaning process.
