J. Chang-Tablada inspires audiences with a unique blend of lush vocals, innovative arrangements, virtuosic piano stylings, and heartfelt personal storytelling. This one-man solo cabaret show bursts to life with an eclectic blend of music spanning jazz standards, thoughtfully reimagined pop hits, and originals.
A queer, mixed race Asian American artist of Filipino, Korean, and Irish descent, Chang-Tablada’s 60-minute “Songs in the Key of J.” explores universal themes of self-reflection, worthiness, and love—creating space for transformational connections that leave a lasting impression on audiences.
J. opens his show with a song his Filipino grandparents performed (they were 1940’s jazz musicians in Honolulu, Hawaii). The opening lyric perfectly sets the tone:
“To spend one night with you in our old rendezvous,
and reminisce with you. That’s my desire.”
Chang-Tablada is honored to continue his family’s legacy of music—telling the story, and singing the same song 80 years later.
