Welcome to the Fine Arts Center

To optimize your experience at the FAC, as well as the experience for those around you, please consider the following requests:

  • Children of all ages are welcome to visit the FAC, however, those under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Maintain a safe distance from the art. Please do not touch the artwork, and keep a safe distance from the art and pedestals. The care you take helps to preserve the art on display.
  • Move carefully. Be sure to walk slowly and carefully in the galleries. Please do not lean on walls or cases. Some galleries have benches or other seating, and there are portable stools available for your use throughout the galleries. Shoes with wheels are not permitted within the galleries.
  • Every museum tries to ensure the preservation of its artifacts. In order to preserve the items that are on display, visitors are asked to please refrain from touching objects and works of art. The oils that are on our hands and in our skin can damage the museum’s pieces. Remember, “Fingerprints are forever.”
  • Mobile devises are allowed but please keep them on silent and take voice calls outside of our theatre and museum gallery spaces.

Below are tips for planning your visit, services available for your comfort and convenience while here at the FAC and a few guidelines that ensure the most positive experience for all visitors and the safety of our collections.

Our goal is to ensure you have a wonderful visit

A wheelchair accessible entrance is available at our main entrance on West Dale Street with ramp access and an automatic entry door opener. Wheelchairs are available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis and are located near the entrance to our Coat Room, adjacent to the lobby. Baby changing stations are available in the Family/All-Gender restroom located next to Deco Lounge, on the west end of the building on the first floor and in the second floor ladies restroom.

Storage & Lockers for Large Bags and Other Personal Items

The coat room is located adjacent to the main lobby. There are hangers for coats, and lockers for large bags and backpack storage. To protect the art on display, we ask that any bags or packages larger than 11×15 inches in size please be stowed in a locker. The keyless lockers are free for day use. Please remember to retrieve your stowed items before departing the FAC.

Elevator Access

Elevators are located in the museum and off of our lobby for access to our upstairs theatre (Music Room).

The main entrance to the FAC is located on 30 W. Dale Street. There is a wheelchair ramp and automatic door, which can be operated with the push button adjacent to the door.

Food

Food and drinks that are purchased onsite at the FAC are permitted to be brought into the theatre. Food and drink is allowed in the courtyard and most other first floor public spaces, but is restricted from our museum galleries, except during select special events.

Large print materials for museum exhibitions will be located outside the main entrance to the exhibition, if available.

Parking

The FAC has its own parking lot, located on W. Dale Street, across the street from the main entrance to the FAC. Please note that on theatre performance and special event days, the lot can fill up quickly. There is additional free street parking available on all streets surrounding the FAC.

Photography Policy

In general, if you don’t see a photography prohibited notification on the wall of the gallery entrance, on the art label for an individual piece you’re admiring, or in the program for the theatre performance you are attending — go for it! We love seeing how other people experience the FAC! If you’re sharing on social — check in, tag us, #FAC

Just a few important guidelines that we ask you to follow —

  • Visitor photography is permitted for personal, noncommercial use only.
  • Photographs may not be published, sold, reproduced, distributed, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner unless approved by the FAC in writing.
  • Please be considerate of your fellow visitors, and avoid disrupting FAC operations, limiting accessibility of exhibitions, entrances/exits, aisle access, etc.
  • Flash photography is prohibited in all FAC spaces. Camera bags, stabilization devices such as tripods and monopods, and other large or specialty photographic equipment are not allowed in the museum galleries or the theatres, but may be stored in free lockers located near the main entrance.
  • Please be advised, in our theatre spaces, audience members are generally permitted to take photos inside the house prior to the curtain going up, during intermission, and after the show but never during a performance. Due to union regulations and legal contracts, taking pictures or the use of recording devices of any kind is strictly prohibited.

Certain works of art on the FAC property cannot be included without expressed written permission from the artist or rights holder.
  • PROM PHOTOS — The FAC has become a desirable location for special occasions such as prom. While we welcome these engagements, visitors will be asked to check-in at the front desk where you will be informed of guidelines and directed to pre-selected locations identified for photo opportunities during these high traffic periods.

The Fine Arts Center reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises. No photographs or videotapes may be reproduced, published, distributed, sold, transferred, or otherwise commercially exploited without the expressed written permission of the FAC.

Restrooms

There are restrooms in several locations: on the first floor, off the main lobby, and a family/all-gender restroom located next to Deco Lounge on the west side of the building. There are also restrooms located on the second floor, in the hallway off of the Holaday Gallery. Please refer to our map for exact locations.

Service Animals

We gladly welcome ADA service animals that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Other animals — pets, emotional support animals, comfort animals, and therapy dogs are not permitted as service animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA. Additionally, a doctor’s letter does not qualify an animal as a service animal.

If it is not immediately apparent, our staff may ask you the following two questions of a patron who enters our building with an animal:

  1. Is the animal required because of a disability?
  2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?

Sign Language Interpretation

Sign language interpretation can be scheduled for any theater performance or guided museum tour upon request with five business days’ notice. To make the request, please email: fac@coloradocollege.edu.

Sketching

The art in our galleries can be great inspirations for your own work. We just ask that you use pencils, not pens, and keep pencils a comfortable distance from the paintings.

Smoking

Colorado College (which includes the entire FAC property) is a smoke- and tobacco-free campus.

Strollers

Strollers are welcome in all FAC spaces. Ramp access to the first floor galleries is available from the lobby, and elevator access to the second floor is available from the Loo Family Gallery.
