Meet Our Oct/Nov Member of the Month: Christina Hogarth

FAC member for 9 years

Why did you become a member of the Fine Arts Center?

Because I love art! I especially love theatre (strictly as a spectator though!)

When did your interest in the arts begin?

I’ve always loved the arts.

What has been one of your favorite plays, classes or exhibits at the Fine Arts Center?

SO many plays – can’t think of just one. I’ve seen Bye Bye Birde, Guys and Dolls, Chicago (many years ago) – Mary Poppins, Forever Plaid, and The Music Man. Enchanted April is my most recent favorite. My absolute favorite art classes (right now) are art history lectures, especially the excursions! My favorite so far was the Sacred Spaces Tour in Denver with Chuck Benson. Sadly my schedule didn’t allow me to attend the Georgia O’Keefe excursion to New Mexico a couple of years ago – maybe next time?  (hint hint)  I’ve also enjoyed a couple of the Denver excursions with Dave Alvarez, and am looking forward to the Pueblo excursion coming up in October. I really like the first Saturday of the month member tours, but cannot come to every one as I usually am working on Saturdays. I’ve also taken pottery (wheel throwing), drawing, and water color painting classes.

What is your favorite work of art at the FAC?

That also changes; my favorite Chihuly is the beautiful blue piece that “sways” – located in the Deco lounge near the theatre. While I enjoy sculptures, contemporary or modern art, my all-time favorite is and has always been paintings. (Portraits, scenery, scenes, etc.)

What else do you like to do for fun in Colorado Springs?

Theatre! (Again, as a spectator, not a performer!) Reading, Swimming, Hiking, Traveling (Ok, that last one’s not really in Colorado Springs.)
