Meet Our Aug Members of the Month: Lynn and Suzanne Claar

Why did you become a member of the Fine Arts Center?

We were members of the Denver Art Museum when we lived in Centennial, so of course it was a natural progression to join our local art museum when we moved to Colorado Springs. We think the classes, tours and special exhibits cover a wide spectrum of the arts to enrich our community.

When did your interest in the arts begin?

I think our interest in art was fueled by our travel throughout the world and being so impressed by the overwhelming artwork we have been privileged to experience.

What has been one of your favorite plays, classes or exhibits at the Fine Arts Center and why?

We really enjoyed Driving Miss Daisy and 9 to 5: The Musical as far as the plays. We always enjoy dinner at the Taste restaurant before the plays as well. We found All New Women to be a fascinating exhibit with Cindy Sherman being both model and artist; and Sara Ware Howsam’s lively exhilarating colors. The special exhibits are well done and give us informative and historical information. We look forward to 2017 when there will be an Interactive Interpretive Experience gallery, which we think will be educational and fun to young and old alike.

What is your favorite work of art at the FAC?

We like the portrait of Miss Elsie Palmer by John Singer Sargent. We think it shows Elsie’s strength and determination. We also enjoy the work of William Henry Bancroft, Albert Bierstadt, Charles Partridge Adams, Ernest Blumenschein and Gustave Baumann.

What else do you do for fun in Colorado Springs?

We love attending the Philharmonic, Broadway Plays, the Colorado Springs Conservatory, the zoo, Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Canyon, Rock Ledge Ranch and enjoy the many excellent restaurants in the area.
