See the next generation of theatre stars in the FAC’s Youth Repertory Ensemble production of Disaster!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 8, 2019) — The Fine Arts Center Theatre Company is excited to celebrate its 20th year of the Youth Repertory Ensemble with their production of Disaster! July 25-28, 2019.

It’s 1979, and New York’s hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque. Also attending is a faded disco star, a nightclub singer with her eleven-year-old twins, a disaster expert, a feminist reporter, an older couple with a secret, a pair of young guys on the prowl, an untrustworthy businessman, and a nun with a gambling addiction. What could go wrong?

While the night kicks off with boogie fever, panic quickly ensues as the ship succumbs to multiple disasters, such as earthquakes, tidal waves, and infernos. As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive and, quite possibly, repair the love that they’ve lost … or at least escape the killer rats.

Audiences and critics are wild for this hilarious homage to the era of bell-bottoms, platform shoes and the hustle. With larger-than-life characters, snappy dialogue, and some of the most recognizable songs of the ’70s (Knock on Wood, Hooked on a Feeling, Sky High, and Hot Stuff, to name a few), Disaster! will have you dancing in your seats and rolling in the aisles.

Youth Repertory Ensemble 20 Year Anniversary
The FAC’s Youth Repertory Ensemble, currently in its 20th year, is a five-week conservatory training program for aspiring theatre performers, designers and technicians, all of whom auditioned and/or interviewed to be included in the program. Details: Sirius/XM radio’s Broadway host Seth Rudetsky brings his hilarious one-man show to Colorado Springs. Deconstructing Broadway is a combination of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “The Tony Awards,” and “The Daily Show”. The 90-minute tour-de-force features Rudetsky’s trademark “deconstructions,” in which he uses his amazing audio/video collection to break down brilliant performances from beloved Broadway divas like Patti LuPone, Betty Buckley and more. Rudetsky showcases mind-boggling videos like The Osmonds singing a medley from Fiddler On The Roof and an entire section on Barbra Streisand. This award-winning show recently played to a sold-out crowd in London where it received 5-star reviews.

Disaster! is opening in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Broadmoor Art Academy (BAA), a national magnet for arts and culture in the early 1900s. At its inception, the BAA, which evolved into the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in 1936, energized the region and created a modern movement to elevate artistic expression for residents and visitors to the Pikes Peak region. A century after its founding, the FAC celebrates the ingenuity of the artists and patrons who helped to shape the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College into the museum, performing arts theatre, and community art school it is today, and how the BAA’s visionary roots are setting the stage for the next generation of arts and cultural enthusiasts.
