The Arts & Social Action: The Raid

“The January 6 attack on the capitol conjured the events of my play The Raid which explores abolitionist John Brown’s failed insurrection of 1859.  In his two meetings with Frederick Douglass the two debated the best tactics to achieve a more just nation. The Arts & Social Action series is one of our platforms to respond and react to national events through conversation and presentation. We quickly assembled an impressive multinational team led by brilliant director Tiffany Nichole Green to create a digital reading of The Raid.  Please join us as we reflect on our shared national history and the challenges of our new year.”
– Idris Goodwin, The Raid Playwright and Director of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College

The Raid titleThe Raid: John Brown is convinced only bloodshed will dismantle American Slavery. After fighting alongside his sons in Kansas, Brown plots to make real his vision: To free and arm black slaves across the south.
